JACK has been developed with all the needs of pro audio and has been in use all over the world for many years and is therefore very stable and mature. Pro-Audio applications are written for the JACK API.
PipeWire is under heavy development and is presented as a replacement of JACK and PulseAudio at the same time for the audio part. It also handles video routing, which is not described in this article. At the moment version numbers indicate a beta development state.
